Annual Dinner Dance
The New England Society in the City of New York hosts an Annual Dinner Dance in November to raise funds for its Scholarship Program. The NES Scholarship Program, established in 1952, provides scholarships to New York City students attending colleges and universities in New England. At the Dinner Dance each year, two awards are presented: the Reginald T. Townsend Award and the J.P. Morgan Award. The Townsend Award honors outstanding achievement representing the finest attributes of the New England character and the J.P. Morgan Award, named for the Society's 26th President, honors a Society member who has rendered outstanding service to the organization. 2011 Annual Dinner Dance
The New England Society’s 206th Annual Dinner Dance took place on November 11th at the Metropolitan Club. The Society honored Mr. Charles Kittredge, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Crane & Co. with the Reginald T. Townsend Award for his outstanding achievements representing the finest attributes of the New England character.
Kittredge, a sixth-generation descendent of Zenas Crane who founded Crane & Co. in 1801, took over the helm in 2007, and since then has greatly expanded the 210 year old company through innovative modernization. With its headquarters in Dalton, MA, Crane & Co., Inc. specializes in the manufacture of bank note papers, printed banknotes, and counterfeit deterrent currency products. The Society's archives include invitations designed by Tiffany & Co. and printed on Crane stationary; these will be displayed at the Dinner Dance. Kittredge, a Harvard graduate, is also noted for his involvement with the Zenas Crane Fund for Student Aid which provides college scholarships. Crane & Co. and the New England were both founded during the Presidency of Thomas Jefferson and have witnessed the exciting narrative of American history. Whether providing paper for the Massachusetts Spy and U.S. currency or championing green practices and advancement in technology, Crane & Co. has expemplified the best of our shared New England heritage.
Society member Anna Bulkot was honored with the J.P. Morgan Award for her outstanding service to the Society. Recognized for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Society, particularly in the communications arena, Ms. Bulkot has helped raise the profile of the organization by developing an effective public relations program which has highlighted our rich history and our plans for the future. She was also responsible for the Archives Exhibit on display at the Dinner Dance.
The New England Society would like to thank all those who supported this major fundraiser through Silent Auction donations and purchases, Program advertisements, general scholarship donations and ticket purchases.
