The application deadline has been extended to August 13th, 2010. Interviews will be scheduled on August 18th and August 25th and two students will be selected. For more information, call the New England Society Office at (212) 752 1938.

The New England Society
Scholarship Program

The New England Society is a charitable and social organization.  Scholarships of $25,000 per student are offered over the four years.  To qualify for consideration, the candidate must be an incoming freshman, planning to a New England college or university, be from one of the five boroughs of New York City, and be in need of financial aid.  In selecting a student to receive this scholarship other factors are taken into consideration.

Candidates are submitted through the institution they wish to attend.  They must fill out an application which will be forwarded to the Society’s office by the institution.  Any additional materials that the candidate would like to include i.e. writing samples, projects, transcripts, etc., are welcomed and may aid in selection.

The Society’s will review the applications received and then contact candidates for an interview with the Aid to Education Committee.  The interview lasts approximately half an hour and students will be contacted by the Committee once interviewing has been completed.  Students awarded the scholarship will receive a portion of the $25,000 each semester.  A check will be sent to the appropriate department in the college for credit to the student’s account.

Scholars are invited to attend events when available and to become members post graduation.  The Society is proud of all of our scholars for their hard work and continuing success.

In Their Own Words
Past and Current Scholars…

Seekqumarie Kellman, Wheaton College, Class of 2007
Wow, where should I begin? I must thank the Aid to Education Committee. I would also like to thank the Society and each and every person who played a role in selecting me for the scholarship. One thing that I am extremely proud of has to be my past summer accomplishment. I worked at Wheaton as an Orientation Coordinator. A large portion of my job dealt with putting together the text for the Orientation booklet. Receiving this scholarship is a blessing, and I want to thank you once again for having such a scholarship.

Brian Robert Pantoja Harris, Middlebury College, Class of 2008
I am writing to inform you as to how my first year at Middlebury College turned out, and to thank you for making it possible for me to attend such a wonderful school. I kept myself very busy during my first year of college and often had a large list of things to do and events to attend that would end up consuming over 24 hours in one day! I would not be able to attend this institution without placing an overwhelmingly large financial burden on my father were it not for your help. Thank you very much!

Eric Rodriguez, Harvard University, Class of 2010
I would like to thank the New England Society for making me the recipient of its scholarship. Receiving this scholarship has truly been a blessing. It has taken a huge load off my shoulders; thus, I am able to focus more on my academics, instead of having to focus on making them possible. I am truly thankful and will sincerely be forever grateful.

Allison Barz, Bowdoin College, Class of 2005
Immediately following my graduation from Bowdoin, I went back to work at Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center. Among other projects, I currently coordinate a study that provides online symptom and site-effect reporting for patients undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer. As the study unfolds, I will manage its expansion to include three additional clinics within the hospital, monitoring a total of 300 patients. I am deeply indebted to the New England Society in the City of New York who provided their generous support throughout my undergraduate years. I think often and fondly of NESNYC and hope to remain a part of your community for many years to come.

Sergey Weinstein, Boston College, Class of 2006
Thanks to the New England Society’s support through your scholarship program, I was able to make the most of my degree program. I wanted to let you know that I graduated magna cum laude from Boston College this past May. I was fortunate enough to have secured a position as an IT consultant for a reputable New York City firm whilst still in school. I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity you have given me and I will be sure to keep you informed of my progress through my career.

Zach Murphy, Connecticut College, Class of 2008
Along with Connecticut College, The New England Society of New York has decided to invest some of their generous funds on me.  And boy, I am not planning on turning out like Bear Sterns.  I am also NOT a fan of clichés, (even though I've already used a ton), but this is an honor.  Any time any one individual, or group of people for that matter, have shown a high level of confidence in me, the effect it has had on my confidence has been unbelievably and incredibly humbling.  It has managed to keep me grounded rather than shoot my ego through the roof.  This is precisely because it's at these times when I am called to pinch-hit in a big situation of a league game, or that I am given a sum of money that will help me and my parents pay for college, that I feel the strongest sense to not disappoint.  Thank You to the New England Society of New York for joining the support system that I have been surrounded by my whole life.
