The New England Society in the City of New York hosts an Annual Dinner Dance in November to raise funds for its Scholarship Program and other philanthropic efforts. At the Dinner Dance each year, two awards are presented: the Reginald T. Townsend Award and the J.P. Morgan Award. The Townsend Award honors outstanding achievement representing the finest attributes of the New England character and the J.P. Morgan Award, named for the Society's 26th President, honors a Society member who has rendered outstanding service to the organization.

The New England Society established the Townsend Award in 1952 to recognize outstanding achievement representing the finest attributes of the New England character. We are proud to present the 2019 Townsend Award to Ronald Lee Fleming, FAICP, founder and president of The Townscape Institute, a nonprofit public interest planning organization based in Cambridge, MA. As an urban planner and designer, preservation advocate, civic leader, thought leader and change agent, Mr. Fleming’s lifetime of work focuses on creating livable and sustainable cities, towns, and neighborhoods. The author of six books, Mr. Fleming was founding chairman of the Cambridge Municipal Arts Council, is Chair Emeritus of Scenic America, and has served many other cultural and civic organizations. His philanthropic work to support initiatives to beautify and improve communities led Newport RI to declare “Ron Fleming Day,” noting: “Mr. Fleming is a recognized authority in the role of art in creating vibrant, livable places, adding luster to Newport’s worldwide reputation as a showcase of art and architecture.”

The New England Society’s 214th Annual Dinner Dance will take place on Friday, November 8, at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.

Tickets are Table Sponsor $7,500, Benefactor $650, Patron $550, Sponsor $ 450 and Junior $250
